CrazedWeasel – The Original Blogger:
The idea of blogging has been knocking around in my head for quite a while and finally got kick-started by CrazedWeasel – The Original Blogger. I kept talking myself out of taking action. A revelation that felt like a kick to the head convinced me to stop making excuses and just get on with it already!
We lost our son, Joe, at the age of 20 on June 15, 2006 (Details another time. For now let’s just brandish a middle finger at cancer.) The world lost a wealth of twisted humor, sarcasm, wit and intellect that day. His alter-ego was CrazedWeasel and he had a sizable following on WOT Mania (an online community for fans of the Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan.) A couple of months ago, I ran across a memorial book that was put together for us by all of his WOT Mania friends. As I’m reading all of their hilarious, irreverent and sometimes touching memories of Joe, it hit me. “Holy shit! Joe was a blogger!” Message received, Joe! Get my ass in gear.
The following are life lessons from Joe (CrazedWeasel):
- Be true to yourself.
- Do what you love.
- Say what you think but don’t be an asshole about it.
- Revel in things that make you laugh, think, and bring you joy.
- Read all the books.
- Watch all the movies.
- Kick ass at trivia (or take your ass-kicking with grace or a minimum of grumbling.)
- Turn up the tunes.
- Obsess over sloths, zombies, Halle Berry (or whatever grabs your gray matter and won’t let go.)
- Be silly (play that toaster!)
The CrazedWeasel lesson here is that life is too short to dumb down who you are. Lean into your true self and have a helluva good time doing it. So that is my starting point for It Might Get Nerdy. No lofty ambitions of world peace or anything socially redeeming. This site is to share fun, interesting, thought-provoking and SQUEEE-worthy things, wherever that may take us.
